The shocking idea that from a treatment may come the realisation that the story may be a novel is like reaching a crossroads - one path is to the screenplay the other to a novel. This juncture must be arrived at and there's a good test of this journey. I'm guessing it may come as a revelation - like Paul's unsuspecting trip one day to Damascus perhaps?
For me it's an exciting discovery because most of my projects I think I see clearly as a screenplay yet one treament I'm writing now could detour to another direction.
