I sometimes find time is an aide. If I decide on a climax or event or theme and months later it's still in my head with the same intensity as it was when I first thought of it, I assume it means that it's probably as good as I hope it is. I trust time because when I look back at anything I've done, I hate it. I am continually destroying my own work. So if something survives my bitter thoughts, I assume it's got to be hardy.
But then, maybe I'm just lying to myself. We'll see.
