I am very worried about the possibility of being accused of plagiarism, not an idea in itself but a term or phrase in my text.

Does it have to be completely finished; or can we copyright it after a first draft? After much research I have just completed the first draft of my screenplay. I want it protected now, but I still have many corrections to make to it. Does anyone know the answer to this? Thanks

screenwriters are between a rock and a hard place on this issue. on the one hand we want to protect our ideas by keeping them secret until copyrighted. on the other an open discussion of our ideas with other writers can facilitate the creative process.

The question was more about being concerned about being plagiarized. A lot of people are scared someone's going to steal their ideas, so I thought it'd be helpful to ask how one protects the idea and how likely it is to happen. (Huh, I probably should've phrased it like that!)

I laughed out loud at your last line regarding what should happen to plagiarists - "May their souls burn in hell, forever."

At the NYC seminar in March, I wondered at your statement that you are an atheist. At the time, I thought to myself, "more likely a recovering Catholic." McKee's very own subtext.

That's where my money is now.
