You could experiment a little. For example, sometimes shoot-from-the-hip answers can be marvelous. At other times, it may be worthwhile taking the answer off line to allow for a more thoughtful, less jagged, or more compressed response.
I like the face to face questions very much because it gives us a chance to get a more complete answer. The reason is that if Bob has questions about the questions, they are instantly clarified and then his answer can hit the mark all the more keenly.
Otherwise he is at a disadvantage if the question is unclear or ambiguous.
