This is true and a point that I realized many many years ago. When one realizes that feeling is an experience of our own body, that it is created of our own mind, one is able to recreate that experience with or without the interaction of another. It was an exercise I tried long ago. To close my eyes and find a way to evoke the same feelings as I had experienced when with my lover. When I realized that I could on my own, it was a realization that these feelings are present within us all of the time, and it is within our ability to release them when so wanted. When you attain that ability it is a very powerful and liberating event, where the sensual world is alive within yourself, not as reactionary to another and thereby out of one's ability to attain it on their own, yet awakened by yourself. It is a different way to live within the world. I found this shift affected my approach to the romance drama that I wrote, and made it far more powerful. It is as well a good exercise in order to enliven a character and their reality within us.
