Yes, of course this makes sense, that in a courtship story the character does have future stories, therefore the possibility for further "pouring out" of these characters after the story ends is a very real one. Thank you for making these qualifications as the character lectures have all been wonderful. Interesting comments on modernism and post modernism, and also re the comment below. My understanding of post modernism as a literary movement is that it is based on the premise that not only are there no explanations, further, we don't have the tools to describe them. The idea of fragmentation does fit with this conceit - as does the description of molecules floating as the writer commented below - does the modernist writer believe that this floating world made up of fragmented pieces thus makes a whole? Maybe, in some cases. I don't know.

the character ín pieces (ie beckett) does express modernist ideas of the rejection of the 'whole', which in philosophy may be metaphysics, in psychology, a whole  individual, and in writing, closure. However, fragmentation is not division or worse, dissipation. it is differentiation and creation. Modern and post modern notions begin with the idea of an expanding universe where force is thermodynamic: it can only change or increase.In deed, classicism concerns order and balance and the forces which undo this economy. Story is essentially dialectical where the whole essentially is the sum of its parts.  But in modernism, the whole  no longer exists-there are only parts and pieces. However, these pieces are active and charged in relation to one another, like atoms and molecules. The canvas or screen is then collage,  pieces dynamically arranged to express forms of life . Indeed,it is the arrangement and intersection of these parts which become the act of creation.Atomism is not randomness. Like jazz, the whole may be absent, or perhaps intuition takes its place for the accomplishment of aesthetic satisfaction.
