Robert, thank you so much, revealing character dimensions, capacities and potential as the story unfolds is most helpful, while also filling the hole that the character has. Your analysis of Anna Karenina is wonderful.Of course now we have the new film with Keira Knightley and the image system you mention of trains, travel, transport is strong in the film, and hints at the film's ultimate conclusion.

It's always amazing and inspiring to hear/read Robert Mckee's interpretations into famous characters- the protagonist in "Ordinary People," Jack Nicholson in "Carnal Knowledge" -- but actually writing characters that way, giving them that subconscious desire, is soooooooo difficult. Any time I've tried it, my reader will just say, "Oh, I didn't get it."

Is the Jack Nicholson character in "Carnal Knowledge" REALLY a pig who wants to destroy women? Or could you say he's just a guy whose really hurt and embittered by women?
