my experience with really great art has happened only a couple of times. although I go to all the great museums and enjoy the quiet of the mind the pull of some works were never fore seen Guenerica, I was rushing through the empty gallery to the large Monets. I froze the hairs all over my body on end...I had tears washing down, no thoughts, no ideas. only the Venus d'Milo has moved me so deeply.

That was a great definition of art, but it assumes my brain can be quieted by anything. I compare my brain to a hamster running on a wheel. My brain just runs, runs, runs non-stop. The only thing that's ever worked at quieting the hamster is drugs. Really good drugs.

if I have to choose an ending to a movie shouldn't I get a partial refund of the ticket price for my efforts?

Mr. McKee's explanation of art is what I want my kids to understand right here, right now, tomorrow is too late. I don't want for them the old "I wish I knew then what I know now." Great lesson.
